The San Francisco Garden Show is Going Wild

Great Soiree last night with Garden Design Magazine and John Greenlee & Associates at Living Green, celebrating the start of the San Francisco Flower & Garden Show‘s 30th season. The show has new energy and ownership. Good things are happening. The theme this year is Going Wild.  How wild will it be? Save the Date. […]Read Post ›

Adding Iris immortality Everblooming Iris

Yesterday we added 100 Iris immortality to a landscape I did a few years ago. The plant color scheme is acid green maroon and white. The guys made gopher baskets because we have a gopher problem on the site.

Amazing fountain at the SF Garden Show

We were wowed by this fountain

Winter Garden

This is a raised bed veggie garden I designed and installed this fall in San Rafael on a hill with a view of  Mt. Tam. We made the planters out of redwood with gopher wire on the bottom. The paths are decomposed granite, also with gopher wire underneath. Here it is, today, still looking good. We […]Read Post ›

Show Garden Construction Beginning

We started show garden construction for the SF Garden show yesterday. Below, the guys with El Alamo Landscape construction helped with loading in this huge multi-trunk palm tree from Palm Island Nursery. The truck rolled in from Lyngso Garden Materials, the company that graciously supplies landscape materials for all of the show gardens (stone, mulch, […]Read Post ›

Trees were Fugi Apple, Granny Smith, Bing Cherry, Black Tart Cherry, Washington Navel Orange and Nagumi Kumquat. We installed electrical outlets in each box so we […]Read Post ›

What to get your gardener for Christmas?

I favor the original tall rain boot. If your gardener already has Hunter boots, you might consider an additional pair or […]Read Post ›

What to do about deer

I’ve put forth a great deal of effort researching and designing with plants that are considered “deer proof.” On a couple of occasions, though, I’ve been quite frustrated. It’s annoying when deer chow down on landscape plants, especially when its a new plant installation because the deer want to taste what’s new on the block. […]Read Post ›

No Blow Sonoma!

How much sense to leaf blowers make? They usually blow the leaves into the mulch and leave them there. I like rakes. Better to remove the leaves and take them away. Leaf blowers are noisy and suck up gas. They’re a waste of time. The wind blows the leaves right back again. Some cities in […]Read Post ›
