Winnie’s Garden

This newly built house in a historic neighborhood near the Sonoma plaza is on a 30-foot lot. It’s a second home used mostly during the summer. The clients wanted an interesting fence that fit in with the existing picket fences, but with a more individualistic feel. I designed the open wood fence and pergola. Code required a covered driveway so we put in a pergola with all square pavers with ¼ spacing and decomposed granite between them to give a European feeling. We put espalier fruit trees and grapevines along the narrow side of the house. On the shady side, we put in a woodland landscape. The front features David Austin roses, grasses and other carefree plants.
